Gordon Ramsay's Perfect Poached Egg

Gordon Ramsay's revealed method to execute a perfect poached egg for this classic breakfast treat.

Close to two years ago I posted this Gordon Ramsay's Perfect Scrambled Eggs recipe, and it surprisingly has been one of our most popular recipes since. Seeing as our viewers have really appreciated the scrambled egg recipe, that conjured up a memory of a Gordon Ramsay's Master Chef episode I had seen a couple years back.

Gordon Ramsay's Perfect Poached Breakfast Egg

To be honest, I hadn't ever had a poached egg before I saw this episode of Master Chef and wanted to try it (I know, we've never been the most sophisticated food family). I loved the way the yolk slowly ran out, and the egg white exterior had a smoother boiled egg texture. I hadn't had an egg like it before. His method is SUPER simple, and SUPER good. If you're trying to impress a spouse, friend, your family (or even yourself!) give this recipe a try for you egg lovers!

prep time: 5 Mcook time: 2 Mtotal time: 7 M

  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 - 3/4 pot of boiling water
  • large dash of salt
  • dash of pepper
  • 1 tsp tarragon vinegar
  • 1 english muffin (this is what I like to eat with mine)

  1. Get the water to a gentle, rolling boil
  2. Crack egg and place insides in a cup
  3. Add the salt, pepper, and tarragon vinegar to boiling water
  4. Maintain rolling boil, and whisk the water for 30 seconds to 1 minute until a strong, circular current of water has developed
  5. Immediately drop egg into center of boiling water current
  6. Let spin in water for 90 seconds - 2 minutes (the longer in the water the more the yolk cooks (I like letting it sit for two minutes))
  7. Remove with slatted spoon and place onto paper towel
  8. Dab egg w/ paper towel to remove excess water
  9. Salt and pepper to taste and enjoy!
